The Best Homemade Playdoh

Kids love playdoh! It's super easy to make, fun to add colors and scents, and there's hours of fun to be had, and not just for kids. Plus, if they happen to eat some, as most kids do at some point or another, homemade playdoh won't hurt them!

Here's our favorite recipe...

Play Dough

In a medium saucepan, add:
2 cups flour*
1/2 cup salt
4 TBS cream of tarter
2 cups water
2 TBS oil
A few (about 4) drops of food coloring
A few (about 4) drops essential oil**, your choice

Stir well, then cook over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes. The mix will look like a sticky mess, and then all of a sudden (when it reaches a specific temperature) it will thicken into a playdoh feel. Continue to stir slowly until evenly heated.
If it's still sticky at all, you can knead in a little more flour. Makes 2 cups. Store in fridge, in a sealed container for longest freshness.

*For gluten-free, you can substitute another form of flour, it does not have to be wheat.
**Essential oil is optional, our favorites include: lemon, grapefruit, peppermint, spearmint, lavender, wintergreen, chamomile. You can use anything you'd like, or none at all.
